The
first story made up by the children (Rana, Rajesh Khan, Laboni and Abhishek)
was for a mime show. Sundeep Kothari a
young man who is deaf teaches mime sometimes. on the 4th of January
he taught the children the following actions in mime : “walking”, “running”, “drink” “feel happy.”
The
children made up a story based on these
actions.
The
story: “Three friends go for a walk.
They see a tea stall. They start walking towards it. Then they start
running. They stop at the tea shop and
ask the tea stall owner for some tea.
They pay for the tea, take the tea cup . Ouch its very hot. They start
drinking but the tea is too hot. They pour the tea on to a saucer and drink
from the saucer. They feel very happy. Sundeep helped with the mime
Laboni
who wasn’t feeling too well chole to be the tea stall owner. She sat on the
bean bag and didn’t have to move. The three boys were the morning walkers.
23 Jan.2014 Rajesh tells a story
: “The Greedy Woodcutter” with a little guidance.
Laboni,
Shivani and Rahesh enacted the story. The dialogue was their own and
spontaneous.
Stories by Rajesh, Shivani and Laboni
March 2014
The
children were asked if they would like make up stories of their own. Rajesh, Shivani and Laboni wrote stories - Rahjesh
and Laboni in Bengali and Shivani in Hindi. The stories were written in March 2014
These
stories were read out to the other children .
On Saturday April 12, 2014 Sundeep taught the group to mime the
stories.
The children mimed. This was was source of great satisfaction and
pride for the three young writers.
1. Shivani’s story (Hindi). Sivani is 14
years old and goes to school
Madan
and Amar were two friends. They lived in
a village. Madan was brave and Amar was
a coward. One day, they went to play in the small forest near their house . They saw a big house in the forest.
Madan said,” let’s find out what is in the
house.”
“O
no,” said Amar. “It may be dangerous.”
“ Come
on. There’s nothing dangerous there,” said Madan
They
went in to the house. It was very dark.
Suddenly Amar saw a yellow door. He called out to Madan. Madan placed his hand on the door. It opened.
The two friends walked in. They saw
something sparkling like diamonds.
“Let’s go and find out what that is,” Madan said. They saw a big iron box.
Madan
said, “there must be gold and silver in this box.”
“Such
boxes existed in olden days,” said Amar.
They
went near the box. There were buttons on it and written on the
box was a sentence. “The contents of this box will belong to the one
who opens it.”
Madan and Amar pressed some buttons. The box opened. It was filled with gold, silver and money.
Amar
said, “Its dangerous to take all this.”
Madan
agreed. “Come. Let’s go,” he said.
As
they started walking away. A fairy flew out of the box and said, “All this gold
and sliver Is now yours. My king had
told me , “all this welalth will belong to the person who lets you out of this
box.”
Madan
and Amar were very happy to hear this.
They filled their bags with the gold and silver and money and went away. The fairy was set free.
Children
mimed the story. This was a bit of chaos because everyone wanted to mime. We
found a solution . The story was broken up into sentences by the children. The group of children were divided into pairs. Each pair mimed a sentence. This worked well.
